Our Purpose, Methods and Priorities

Our Purpose:

We believe that our primary purpose at New Covenant Bible Church is to glorify God (1 Cor. 10:13; Eph. 3:21; Eph. 5:27).

We do this primarily in two ways:

• One-by helping people enter and grow in vital relationships with Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20; Colossians 1:28).
• We believe that Jesus Christ should be the central focus of the Church (Colossians 1:17).
• We believe that the central issue in spiritual growth is an individual's ongoing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, not keeping a list of rules (John 5:39; John 17:3; Romans 7:6).
• We believe that God designed us to see and savor His glory (best seen in Jesus Christ- Hebrews 1:3), and that seeing and savoring His glory is the only activity that can truly satisfy the human soul (Isaiah. 43:7).
• Two-by helping people connect in loving, "iron sharpening iron" relationships (Proverbs 27:17; Hebrews 10:24-25).

Our Methods:

We attempt to accomplish our primary purpose through.

• Sunday morning worship.
• Small group fellowship and Bible study.
• Fellowship events for the whole body.
• Individual discipleship and mentoring.
• Service and outreach to our community and the world.

Our Priorities:

We affirm these priorities as we pursue our primary purpose:

• We believe that prayer is the foundation for all ministry (1 Timothy 2:1).
• We believe that ongoing spiritual growth is essential and normal for all believers.
• We believe that the proclamation of God's Word is essential to spiritual growth and that the exposition of Scripture is a primary catalyst for transformation in the life of the believer (1 Timothy 4:13-16; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12).
• We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is essential for spiritual growth and that without Him, growth is not just difficult, but impossible (Romans 8:11).
• We believe that a small group experience is essential for spiritual growth because it helps believers connect with each other in "iron sharpening iron" relationships and enables them to fulfill the "one another commands of the New Testament (Proverbs 27:17; Hebrews 10:24-25).
• We believe that lost people matter to God and that the Church exists to spread the light of His glory to all people (Numbers 14:21; Psalm 57:5; Psalm 72:19; Isaiah 11:9; Habakkuk 2:14; Philippians 1:18-20).
• We believe that worship, both individual and corporate.
1. is an offering that pleases God (Hebrews 13:15)
2. enables us to see and savor His glory (Psalm 16:11)
3. is an affair of both the head and the heart (John 4:23-24).
• We believe that leadership in the body of Christ.
1. Is comprised of a group of men referred to in the New Testament as elders (Acts 20:17; Titus 1:5; 1 Pet. 5:1).
2. Should meet the qualifications described by the apostle Paul in the New Testament (1 Tim. 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9).
3. Is responsible for shepherding the flock of God and directing the affairs of the church (John 21:15-17; Acts 20:28; 1 Thes. 5:12-13; 1 Tim. 3:5; 5:17; Titus 1:7; Heb. 13:17; 1 Peter 5:1-3).
4. Assumes different responsibilities according to the gifts and calling of each elder (1 Tim 5:17; Titus 1:9).
